FUN DAY EVENT

February 22, 2025

Connecticut Valley Vizsla Club hosted a Fun Day this past Saturday at the Obedience Dog Training Club of Waterbury in Oxford, CT. Lauren Friedman and Chris Sweetwood were gracious enough to give us their Saturday morning, with Chris teaching an Intro to Rally mini-class, and Lauren doing Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog Testing.

About a dozen people signed up in advance, and a few extras dropped in. Many participants entered multiple dogs. In addition to most of the board being in attendance, we had a strong showing of vizslas, club members, and a few other dogs that were neither short haired nor red. Many went home with the paperwork to apply for new AKC CGC and Trick Dog titles. Everyone was able to get out and socialize and had a great time.

The board would love to hear some feedback from CVVC members if they’d like to see more events like this or something else, attached is the questionnaire that we had available on line and at the fun day.

Please fill out and return it .

We are offering Intro to Rally and the opportunity to learn and possibly receive your Trick Dog and CGC titles. Lauren Friedman and Chris Sweetwood will be teaching and testing for titles.

"Thanksgiving 2024"

Thanksgiving is upon us and with that we wrap up our season. Last Saturday was our fall Hunt test, the weather was not great between the rain and the wind, but we were able to run 72 dog, several were able to finish titles and other got their 1st legs. It’s always nice to see new comers have a great time with their dogs! The test got off to a rough start with one judge running late and another whose car wouldn’t start and had to get a ride to the grounds.

As always in the fall we had to punt and get things rolling but we recovered and we couldn’t have done it our wonderful volunteers, some of whom are not club members and don’t even have dogs to run. Shout out to the following: Denise Romeo, Sarah Allard, and Tristian Boscardin who line marshaled and got everyone to the line on time. Cory Roy, Tristian Boscardin and especially Rebecca Rowley who walked tireless to bird plant all day. Cathy Tharp, Monique Jorgo who helped with hospitality. Tim Allard who pitched in wherever I asked, including the dirtiest job of cleaning the bird room. Also the entire Hollister family, Scott who help secretary and Robyn and the girls who sold raffle tickets surmount our goal. I’m sure I am missing someone.

Our judges and gunners who walked every brace in the rain to watch your dogs do what they were bred to do, THANK YOU! Finally I couldn’t do any of it without the help of these two women, Ann Moses and Linda Morris. The amount of work they do behind the scenes is ridiculous. Wishing everyone a great holiday season and we will see you in the spring! Marisa

"SPRING 2023"

Saturday’s CVVC Spring Hunt test is now a wrap. We had beautiful weather, lots of new faces and a full schedule. It was a very successful day.

Judging Panel

We would like to thank our Judging Panel, including Valerie Mattie-Reis, who had a blowout coming through Springfield, managed to get to safety, and she ubered her way to the test so she could complete her judging assignment. Girl Power!!!

We couldn’t have done any of it without the support of our club members and wonderful volunteers.

We’d like to thank the following people.

Line Marshalls extraordinaire

Kim Karkut, Susan Potocik, Sandy Jacobus-

who got people to the line efficiently and kept things running smoothly.

Gunners

Chris Leitkowski, Mike Ernest and Cory Roy with their shooting expertise for our dogs.

Photos

Ron Karkut who took great photos of teams that earned legs or titles.

Raffle/ Course Management

Rebecca Rowley, woman of many talents, who took charge of our raffle and managed to surpass our goal, helped set courses and seed courses them at 6:30 am to get the first brace off the line at 7:07, and filled in wherever I needed her due to me not being as mobile as I had hoped.

Our Bird Planters

which is one of the most important jobs-- of the hunt test, Tristan Boscardin, Alan Mizak, John Morris: and newcomer Shane Podmore. Shane deserves a huge shot out for his extraordinary effort. He planted nonstop from 6:30 am until 3pm and help clean out the bird-room and anything else I asked.

My Right Hand Girls

Finally, I couldn’t do any of it without the help of these two women, Ann Moses and Linda Morris. The amount of work they do behind the scenes is ridiculous.

Get ready to do it all again November 25th with the Brittany club on the 26th.

Thank You Marisa Fowler, Hunt Test Chair

CVVC congratulates "Ruby" NBISS MBISS CH Grouspt Semprfi Vorosakapink ROM
and Mark & Joan Toepke on Ruby's Induction into the Vizsla Club of America Hall of Fame.

Ruby was the ultimate showgirl. Slip on that lead and she was all business. Mark always said, if she had a theme song, it would be “I did itmy way”. She did everything in a big way and we sure do miss that punky little attitude each and every day. Her induction into the VCA Hall of Fame was surely the icing on the cake. She taught us a lot in her almost 15 years, taking us on a wild ride, introducing us to our best friends and teaching us how to take a perfectly good family sport and turn it into an out of control obsession. She produced many wonderful Get and Grand Get and they are now continuing her majestic legacy. It’s also nice to see that Ruby’s “comedic gene” is also still represented. They say when you lose a dog, they take a little piece of your heart. I think Ruby took just a little more. Until we meet again Doobins!

CVVC Hunting Test June 4, 2022

The CT Valley Vizsla Club’s Spring Hunting Test was, once again, an event of which we can be proud—with the help of our club members as well as volunteers from area dog clubs. We would like to take a moment to thank all those who came up big when needed most—and if we forgot to list anyone, please forgive us and chalk it up to post-HT fatigue.

Thanks to Dick Frawley and Andrew Campbell, who helped John cut a workable course despite grass that was up to their waists. Thank you also to Marisa, Andrew and Rebecca Rowley, who spent most of the day planting birds in that high grass.

Susan Potocik and Sandy Jacobus—thank you for keeping the braces moving so things could proceed in a timely manner. Many thanks to our gunners Mark Alexander and Chris Sweetwood, and to our judges—Lauren Friedman, Jim MacWalter, Paul Bruk, Paulette Peckol, Roger Gilman, and Marisa Fowler, who walked in the heat to do a masterful job.

Then there were the behind-the-scenes people—Annie Moses, Susan Nakumura, and again, Rebecca Rowley and Dick Frawley, who picked up food, brought coolers with ice and otherwise tended to the many tasks that help to make a hunting test run smoothly. Once again—we couldn't have done it without you. Or we could have, but things would have been just a little crazy!
